This class is an introduction to the technique of Mokume Gane, pronounced “mokumay gahnay”, adapted from the Japanese metalsmithing technique of the same name. By layering thin sheets of clay with layers of metal leaf, a ‘sandwich’ of various elements is created. By pressing, stamping, and other manipulations of this sandwich, and then using the blade slicer to shave thin slices of clay from the whole, the magic of Mokume is revealed. | |
